The Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository, as designated by the Nuclear Waste Policy Act amendments of , is a proposed deep geological repository storage facility within Yucca Mountain for spent nuclear fuel and other high-level radioactive waste in the United States. The site is located on federal land adjacent to the Nevada Test Site in Nye County, Nevada, about 80 mi ( km. In , the Office of Nuclear Waste Management of the DOE and the USGS of the Department of Interior released jointly a draft plan for disposal of radioactive waste in a mined repository (U.S. Department of Energy and USGS, ). The report was written by 17 scientists from five organizations and concluded that there was a need to redirect.

Abstract. Cost assessments of geological disposal of carbon dioxide and radioactive waste are presented. The scope of the cost assessments covers a range of activities from research, site identification, licensing and construction to operation, closure and Cited by: 6. Radioactive materials are widely used in our society, and when they are, radioactive wastes can be produced. In addition to being used to generate about 20% of the electricity used in the USA and 17% of the electricity used worldwide, radioactive materials are important in medicine, industry, and research. Provides summary and detailed results associated with the Department’s performance goals and associated annual targets that align to budget activities.
